Key Features of RoboForm

We reviewed RoboForm based on five of the most important features of a password manager: security and encryption, app compatibility, usability and ease of use, password sharing, and price. Below is a breakdown of RoboForm’s features.

Security & Encryption

Roboform 1

RoboForm keeps your credentials secure with PBKDF2 encryption, which adds extra data to your master password to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. Another valuable security feature is RoboForm’s requirement that you create a strong password. Some password managers allow you to create short passwords with no letters or special characters, making it extremely easy for hackers to guess their way into your accounts. In contrast, RoboForm requires you to create a master password that contains a minimum of eight characters, at least four of which must be letters or symbols. Using a combination of letters, numbers and symbols makes it even more difficult to guess your master password.

RoboForm provides an extra layer of security by issuing you a secret key after you’ve created your master password and finished setting up your account. This secret key ensures that your master password stays on your device, reducing the number of opportunities hackers have to try to decrypt it. Finally, RoboForm supports two-factor authentication, an authentication method that requires you to provide additional information to confirm your identity. Two-factor authentication makes your accounts even more secure.

App Compatibility

Roboform Stronger Password

RoboForm supports multiple platforms, making it easy to manage your credentials on desktop computers, laptops, smartphones, and other devices. For Windows users, RoboForm is available for the desktop operating system and several browsers, including Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera. If you’re a Mac user, you can also use RoboForm with macOS and the Safari browser. Due to its compatibility with the iOS and Android mobile operating systems, RoboForm is ideal for business use. It can be installed on almost any mobile device, eliminating the need to upgrade your employees’ phones.

RoboForm also offers automatic syncing to make it more convenient to use with multiple devices. Automatic syncing means anytime you edit an item or log in with your master password, your data is automatically synchronized, ensuring the information is consistent. For example, if you use your laptop to create new credentials for a site, automatic syncing immediately transfers the information to your other devices, making it easy to log in from anywhere with those new credentials.

Usability & Ease of Use

RoboForm has a separate installer for each operating system, with detailed tutorials explaining how to install each one. Once you install the program, it’s easy to set up your user account and create a master password. If you have a family or business account, RoboForm also makes it easy to add new users. Once you complete the process, RoboForm sends the new user an email with a temporary password and instructions for finishing the setup.

RoboForm also supports biometric logins, making your data even more secure. Biometric authentication is a type of security that prevents unauthorized users from accessing your accounts by requiring you to provide a piece of unique information about yourself before you can log in. Fingerprints, voice scans, and iris scans are all types of biometric authentication. It would be incredibly difficult for a hacker to reproduce your fingerprints, so using biometric logins further reduces the risk of unauthorized account access.

Password Sharing

RoboForm allows password sharing between users, which is especially helpful for business users. This feature makes it possible for employees to log in to shared accounts without seeing the usernames and passwords, making it much easier to control account access. If an employee leaves the company, you don’t have to worry about changing every password. Password sharing can be used to give employees access to a variety of websites and mobile applications, from mileage trackers to bookkeeping programs.

Password sharing also makes it much easier to manage family accounts. For families with kids, password sharing eliminates the need to type in a password every time a child wants to use a video streaming service or shared gaming account. Password sharing also makes it easier to pay bills and take care of other household tasks. Spouses, significant others and roommates can pay rent, log in to shared banking accounts, submit apartment maintenance requests and perform other tasks thanks to this convenient feature.

How RoboForm Works

FunctionalityHow It Works
Setting up the vaultAfter you complete the setup process, you’ll have the opportunity to start importing passwords from your favorite websites and apps. When you import new credentials, RoboForm automatically creates a vault for you. You can also create a vault manually by typing in credentials instead of importing them from elsewhere.
Logging into accountsIf your browser supports auto-fill, all you have to do is go to the login page of your favorite website, click the auto-fill button, and select your credentials from the list. If you’re on a platform that doesn’t support auto-fill, click the RoboForm extension instead. You’ll be prompted to choose a login.
Creating passwordsYou’ll create a master password when you set up your account. To create a new password for a website or app, click the RoboForm icon. Then select Generate New from the list of options. You’ll be prompted to enter your information.
Changing passwordsIf you need to change your master password, click the RoboForm icon, look for the Change Password option and log in with your current credentials. Create a new master password, and save it to your account. To change the password for one of your accounts, click Generate New or alter the existing password by opening Advanced Settings. You can use the advanced settings to change how many characters are in your password, exclude similar characters and set a minimum number of digits to be included in your password.
Sharing loginsOpen the RoboForm Editor. Once you find the item you want to share, right click. You’ll be prompted to enter an email address.
Recovering accountBecause RoboForm uses several forms of encryption, RoboForm employees don’t have access to your password and won’t be able to recover your account for you. If you set up RoboForm to work with Touch ID or Face ID, you may be able to recover your account with one of these tools. You may also be able to have your emergency contact recover your account for you.
